  • Dear SLA Families,

First, we are saddened to learn that you lost your school, seemingly overnight. We can relate.

One night this January, the Eaton fire tore through our beloved lower school campus and rendered our High School unusable in the short term.

As of last week, we landed at Camp Bob Waldorf, a historic site for recreation, learning, team building and creativity sited on many acres of forested land. Deer roam, rabbits forage, the air smells like eucalyptus and pine.

    It feels like home.

We know what it's like to have to pivot quickly. There were many challenges on our journey to finding our home. We also know what it's like to emerge on the other side of a crisis with our core values of community, holistic education, social engagement, and individual attention to student development intact, even amplified.

We would very much like to meet you, listen to you, and talk. We know our students would like to make new friends.

Please join us Thursday, March 27, from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. for an introduction to our school, a walk on our campus, a peek into a music class, and a Q&A with teachers and students.

Please use the link below to reserve a space. If you cannot make Thursday's tour, contact me and we can make other arrangements.

  • Dear Families of The School of Los Angeles,

We are deeply saddened to hear about the loss of ESLA. Schools like yours are gems—places where students grow not just academically but as thoughtful, engaged humans! We know this because, in so many ways, our schools share the same heart.

At Citizens of the World Silver Lake Middle School, we believe in the power of diverse-by-design communities, where rigorous academics go hand in hand with collaboration, social-emotional learning, and a deep commitment to service and social justice. Like your school, we aim to nurture curious minds and compassionate hearts. Our ROOTS program encourages students to explore topics that shape our world, helping them build a strong sense of self, develop meaningful relationships across differences, and engage in real-world projects through an anti-bias, anti-racist lens.

We know that transitions like these can be difficult, and we want you to know that you are not alone. We invite you to come visit our brand-new, state-of-the-art campus, where many of our students are also new to the community—making it a welcoming place for families seeking a fresh start. Our intimate 6th-8th grade program is designed for middle schoolers and the developmental needs of this age range, making it a unique, thoughtful learning experience. We are currently accepting applications for our tuition-free public school, and we would love to invite you to meet our students, families, and staff, who, like you, were looking for a school that honors both academic excellence and the whole child.

Please reach out if you’d like to learn more or schedule a visit. We’d be honored to get to know you.

    See our Middle School Videohere!

    Sincerely,
    Melissa Kaplan
Executive Director - Citizens of the World Los Angeles
